Hi,
I'm looking for a decent GPA unit under £200 (~$300?) for my van. I also need to fit a reversing camera in the van as there are no rear windows. The ting is I don't want two screens on the dash. Does anyone know of a GPS unit that I could use that will also take a feed from a camera? I'd be happy to hack one if necessary but I don't have the knowledge to be let loose on a new unit and a soldering iron without at least some pointers on what I should be doing!
Cheers,
Steve |

Binatone do one with a reversing camera.
Try a search for 'Binatone' on here (should give several significant 'hits')
...and there's a review of it HERE |

An update:
I looked but I couldn't find a binatone for sale. seems to be discontinued.
However the Garmin nuvi 5000 has av/in supporting NTSC - anyone know of any reason why I shouldn't just get one of these and plug in a NTSC camera? I've seen the 5000 for a bit less than £200 so it would hit the mark if it works. |

an update for anyone else looking for the same thing... i.e. gps with backup camrera.
i bought the Garmin Nuvi 5000 from handtech (£185) and an NTSC camera from reversingcamerasuk.com (~£50), Both are excellent. The Nuvi not only supports "AV in" as advertised it actually has settings that specfically support use with a backup camera. The menu includes options for PAL and NTSC cameras - I use NTSC as that was what was listed in the specs.
I don't know why Garmin don't make more of this feature - it's ideal for large trcuks, camper vans and so on. Anyhoo, the whole thing was a doddle to set up and it works a treat. The final cost was £260 which covered the GPS, a camera, extra cables and other wee bits to finish the job off.
Cheers. |
