So is the Furtuna gpsmartbt the one you were referring to in the "wait till today " their will be one I might like? I do not find the Cobra or that other one with the uk software here. Forget name of it at the moment.
Can not find any info on the Cobra 1000 anywhere, but that might be because I did read that it isn't due out until march.
Not being a tech-no viz but looking at the checked items in the review section I think the Furtuna looks fair, Any comments out there?

Actually, no. It was InfoMap Navigator, but unfortunately it doesn't cover North America at present. We will have some other reviews available in the near future (next 4-6 weeks for PC Satellite Navigation software).

I'll be waiting...somewhat patiently. :>)
As far as what is currently out there, which are the best picks? Say the four top, ones, hopefully makes it simple. Bluetooth and or handheld.

These are hardware only (not bundled with software), but I'd say these are probably the best you'll find...

Bluetooth
Emtac / Socket / CoPilot
Holux GR-230
SysOnChip BT GPS
RoyalTek RBT3000
GlobalSat BT308

Handhelds - including some with mapping support
Garmin eTrex
Garmin eTrex Vista
Garmin Geko's
Garmin GPSMap76S
Magellan Meridian GPS

I think you'll like it. It won't be available for at least a few weeks maybe a little longer as we have a lot of backlog on reviews to clear, but stay tuned, we'll have it here soon!

Dave,

Is there any reason why the Fortuna Clip On didn't make it into your Bluetooth list? Seemingly this has a couple of advantages over the competition - it uses standard Nokia phone batteries and it is switchable between standard SiRF and SiRF Xtrac modes. Maybe it's that there's so many good alternatives!

However, is there some drawback I haven't come across? It's just that if I was going to buy a Bluetooth GPS today, it'd be the first model I was considering.

No, there's no problem with the Fortuna Clip-On, in-fact it is a good GPS, I was just going through our review pages and picking off links and the Clip-On hasn't made it to our reviews page yet. The review should be released asap.

Thanks Dave.

I shall look forward to that review. The Clip-On seems to have a lot of potential, particularly for those that want a Bluetooth GPS for both walking and similar outdoors use (where XTrac can allow the use of GPS where it's otherwise impossible) and in-car use (where, in good signal areas, you may prefer to operate without XTrac).
