How to upgrade the volume of your Zumo/Nuvi TTS (Text To Speak) voice files to the highest level !!

The How to:
HowTo - Upgrade volume of Zumo TTS voices.pdf

As example i already have 3 TTS voices converted:
English -British-Emily - volume 75 to 99, version 1.43
Dutch-Claire - volume 80 to 99, version 1.43
French-EU-Virginie - volume 80 to 99, version 1.43

Place them in: GARMIN:\garmin\voice

Undo!!!

- Delete the English_British_Emily.vpm file from GARMIN:\garmin\gpx
- Disconnect your Zumo from computer and let it startup completly
- Reconnect your Zumo to your Computer
- Start Garmin Webupdater and let it check the software
- Check additional software in Webupdater
- Select the needed voice file (English British Emily)
- Press ok and the original Voice file is installed to your Zumo again.

(this is also working for deleted text or traffic file, not for maps!)

Excellent - will be trying this tonight - the TTS voice (Emily) is just too quiet for high speed running.

Applied it to my system - works a charm. I will have to fine tune it as 99 seemes to give more distortion than I would prefer. At least the volume level is now comparable to Liz W's camera warnings.

Level 90 is good, 95 gives some distortion. In between i have not tested. Above 99 is not possible, numbers with 3 digits make the file unreadable by a Zumo.

Hi guy's.
I have an i3 with sd card but there is no voice directory just a poi directory.
Does this mean the voices are on the unit's internal memory & if so can I access them?

Ta.

In hexadecimal, there are plenty of other 2 digits numbers such as 9A to 9F, A0 to AF, B0 to BF, etc until FF.
99 is probably not the maximum!

Not sure if this programme will allow me to do this, but can the files be modified and recorded in my own voice so I can use a completly different language (urdu/punjabi) to work on the garmins. I have a garmin nuvi 660.

I could then share this file with whoever wants this language. :D

The urdu language is available for the tomtoms but not for garmins. Sad

Hi,

Anyone know which 'bong' numbers are used for the speed alerts/overspeed.

I have changed the sound on all the 'bongs' and even deleted them on a number of occasions, but they still seem to remain on the system.

Can the 'bongs' be changed to 'spoken alerts'??

Thanks.

Mussey1.

This is possible with the non-TTS voices - try searching these forums - I saw it somwhere.

Interesting - I assumed that the figures were going to be percentage of maximum volume - haven't tried it as at 99 it's too distorted

Sorry guys, but I haven't got a clue on how to get this to work.

When I run the voice utility programme, for the 'Garmin Voice File' I choose one of the .vpm files from my Nuvi.

But thats as far as I can get.

What exactly do I put in the 'Sound Files' box? I know it needs to a .wmv file but where do i get one from?

Once the .vpm is split will it show which file is for which speech, so when I update a single file I will be translating it correctly.

Please help.

It's a nice piece of software.

Why does it need to access the internet so much when it is running ?

When (and only when) you click on the "Join" button, it performs a quick check to see if there's a newer version available.

I've modified all the non-verbal wav files (bongs and pings) in English_British and loaded them back onto my Zumo.

I've confirmed that they are loaded by using the Diagnostics function on the Zumo and played them back one at a time.

The "proximity alert sound" is still the same. Anyone got any suggestions ?
