They always have been when upgrading - well since March when I got my i3 anyway. It's only when downgrading to an earlier version that Favorites have been lost, but even then I found POIs were retained. |
anita/lester ..whenever i've upgraded (not many times} i've not had any poi's loaded , only when i've down graded i've had poi's on ,which i lost...you think you know a bit then you find you dont.... _________________ *************************** |

Well thinking about it, the POIs are stored on the transflash card - for those i3 owners that have i3s using a transflash card for mapping - as one file: poi.gpi (uncannily enough in a folder called poi). So it's no true suprise that custom loaded POIs survive firmware manipulation - either forwards or backwards.
As to where the favourites are stored, then clearly they must be on non-volatile memory, as I believe a hard reset nukes them. |

Hi,
Upgraded to Firmware Update3.2 yesterday on both our i3's and everything appears to work OK.
All favourites and custom points have been retained as I would have expected.
I will report back after a couple of weeks of testing, but for now it looks as though Garmin have got it about right for me.
Regards,
Robert Swanson

regarding the timings for final prompt before a turn i wonder if it'd be worth a few of us emailing garmin about it and recomending instead of the automatic distance being assumed from the max speed for that road (i.e. if the road is a 60 you get 0.3miles warning even if you're only doing 30mph) that it could be calc'd from the current speed? think that would solve most problems assuming the extra calculation didn't slow things down too much...

I wonder if it makes a difference if you have memory card or not?
I have a card that came with the i3 and have no problems. |

Agreed. I feel the zoom in and out is "more appropriate" (sorry can't think of a better explanation than that!!!) |

I've done about 100 miles since 3.20 update, and everything seems fine so far. They were all regular journeys so only ran in (3D) Map mode. Screen updates seem much smoother, and have not yet seen a freeze or lock up, which was quite a regular thing with 3.10
I'm very pleased with the update, but i'll keep trying different settings to see if I can break it - I can usually find a way
FYI: My unit has maps on a transflash card and 30,500 POI's and about 20 favorites loaded. I have never added any other language files. Audio V.2.00 and GPS mode: normal |

I have once again run two i3's back to back, my own unit with FW3.2 and all PW speed cams installled and a unit from work on FW2.7, again with all speed cams installed.
In 3d map mode my unit was taking approx 33 seconds to update the map. I got the wife to video it on my mobile, as garmin don't seem to be 'aware' of any problems.
Indeed many people on this forum seem not to be having any problems!!!
Is there any way to upload a file onto this forum so others can have a look?

Just been for a quick drive. In Nav mode all has been fine for the last 2 days.
However 15 minutes in Map Mode and it's lagging like a fat kid on Sports Day. It only updated the last 1/2 mile once i got on my drive. Most of the time it was about 50 meters behind me. Weird thing is the Speedo updates ok but not the map (again).
More tests coming... |

Good idea, MaFt. I've just sent an email to Garmin. _________________ Anita
