Concord, Mass. and Menlo Park, CA – December 15, 2003 – TomTom®, a leading provider of personal navigation systems, today announced brand new, enhanced maps with expanded turn-by-turn coverage from strategic map data provider Tele Atlas. The maps will be provided free-of-charge to all existing TomTom Navigator USA customers.

The Tele Atlas data in TomTom’s latest release includes the most comprehensive turn-by-turn coverage currently available for the United States. This extensive turn-by-turn coverage enables users to navigate more smoothly and successfully to their destinations. In addition, this update includes more image-attributed coverage, making the map display look more natural and offering a more true-to-life experience to the user. The combination of extensive turn-by-turn coverage and image-attribution in Tele Atlas maps enables users to navigate with greater ease through complex and high-stress urban areas, as well as rural areas.

“Tele Atlas has over the years invested substantially in developing high-quality digital maps for navigation systems,” said George Fink, chief operating officer of Tele Atlas. “TomTom Navigator USA continues to offer the most comprehensive door-to-door personal navigation system using the Tele Atlas maps, thus showing TomTom’s continued commitment to their customer base.”

TomTom Navigator USA offers a highly accurate digitized roadmap system that works in conjunction with extremely precise TomTom GPS receivers, both wired and self-powered Bluetooth, providing an efficient navigation tool for business and leisure travelers alike. With fully attributed turn-by-turn map data from Tele Atlas, this combination offers the industry’s most intuitive user interface with features and functionality that address all personal navigation needs in one comprehensive solution.

Most notable features of TomTom Navigator USA are:

Not Really, TomTom have taken a battering recently regarding US based mapping algorithms not being 'normal' and to update algorithms you have to usually update the maps, so this is something that TomTom have been working on, and probably why there's US based maps at present being updated free.

Shame - it's been a long time since 2.24 was released and I get withdrawal symptoms from updates!
