Bean Bag mounts - where to purchase etc.

I posted a number of weeks ago about buying my daughter a new TomTom but wasn't happy with the new style TomTom mount. One of the replies I got was to purchase a "bean bag" mount which can sit on a flat area of the dashboard.

I think this is an excellent suggestion as it will solve theft problems e.g. no mount stuck to the window when my daughter leaves her vehicle, also it preserve the life of the TomTom mount i.e. not get worn out by constant removal from the screen.

Can anyone advise where to purchase these mounts as I have never seen them in my local Halfords etc. Are they a generic product or one made specially for the TomTom.

Any help appreciated.

I can recommend Arkon's Friction Base mount, reviewed here.

I have seen two different types in Halfords, one was manufacturer specific Garmin or another well know brand and the more interesting one was this one.

Just to add my twopennath. I bought the Arkon mentioned by Darren above and it is brill. does not move, works brilliantly, bought mine with the suction mount from Ebay.

The Arkon mount mentioned above is the image of the alternative branded name one I mentioned earlier, but I am sure it was not sold in Halfords under the Arkon name, I seem to remember Garmin, it was in a dark blue and black package, but my memory is not what it once was.....

I remember on picking it up, how heavy it was ( a few lb )and thinking if the car stopped dead in a collision that wouldn't...

Never mind there will soon be a navigator for my motorised bathchair!

Thanks guys - those are just the ticket - I will hot foot it down to my local Halfords to see one in the flesh plus I will see if I can find an Arkon to look at in the flesh before making my final decision.

The Arkon CM012 Non-Skid mat can be found HERE at a good price.

I have not used the company so don't know how good they are.

Crikey that is cheap! I've used Blueunplugged for cellphone stuff in the past and had no issues.

I've dealt with blueunplugged and it has always given excellent service. In fact I think I'm going to order one at that price.

Edited to say: I've now been online and ordered one. £9.45 including postage can't be bad.

They must have read this site as it is now £9.95 plus postage which I think may cost a bit due to its weight.

I don't like it on websites when you cannot see the postage charges that apply to your order until you are half way through the checkout process. Amazon are good at that, you buy three items for 50p from different sources, then after you have given all your details you see the price for delivery is £13.50. The delivery should be shown in the basket.

Agreed, I went as far as the checkout intending to cancel if the postage was excessive but £1.45 was ok so I went ahead, I'm glad I did now, although, unless poatage has been increased considerably, it's still a good price compared with Lakeland at over £17. Paypal payments are also accepted which is great.

With the First Class postage that low, I have ordered one, I assumed it would be a lot more. They must lose business by not pasting the postage earlier.

Also for the x20/x30 Go's they do one including a mount for £17.95
