These batteries being sold on eBay are superb - better than Duracell throwaways! I have bought about a dozen and am delighted with them. :D

I have been using some 800mAh rechargables and they have been fine for me.
I have the unit connected to the cars supply when in use so the batteries are only for the switch off countdown and a little bit of time when I am loading POI's etc.
I am finding I have to charge them every couple of weeks which is fine by me.

So you're not actually using the batteries at all then?

So you run the unit of the ciggy lighter when in the car?

Can you explain this? Do you mean when you switch of the ignition and it switches to batteries you get the 30 seconds count down? What's the point?

Your PCs USB bus should power the i3 when you plug it in so your not using the batteries there either.

I saw these on Ebay but when I emailed the seller he said they take about 22 hours to charge up. I ended up with a Uniross 300, which takes 9 for £8.50 delivered.

i posted the price because it seemed a good price for rechargeables with the charger. If you want a faster charger(30mins) the duracell offer in boots recently was good for £10, or if you want higher capacity batteries, ebay has 2800mAh on offer.

PaulB2005,

My general point was that for, what I would consider, pretty normal use as I described there is no real need to be spending extra money on 2.5 - 3Ah batteries since run of the mill rechargables available from Tesco will do a perfectly adequate job.

Nick.

Cheers. Plus i found out that keeping batteries in when it's off means it doesn't take as long to acquire the satellite's, so there is another benefit.

I didn't mean to come across as being aggressive - i just couldn't see how the batteries where being used.
