Just a quick query, i was playing with a demonstartion Go in PC World yesterday.

I tried to find Crewe in Cheshire but it was having none of it. Is this just because it was a demo unit? Otherwise as I live in Crewe it might be a daft investment.

I'd be really grateful if someone could try the CW2 postcode for me!!

Thanks in anticipation!

Iain

I can confirm that Crewe, in Cheshire, is available to the TTG and that the CW2 Post Code is available built into the TTG and also in The Post Code POI.

Also in my opinion, the TTG is a good buy.

I don't understand that!

Mine finds Crewe ok - including lots of streets in CW2.

My first thoughs were that maybe they had the Major Roads of Europe map loaded rather than Great-Britain - because MRE is missing a lot of place names even though it knows about the roads which go to them.

However, I switched to MRE - and Crewe is there, too!

It sounds to me as if whoever was demonstrating it didn't know what they were doing.

It seems as if it was a peice of demo software, it only really mentioned the metropolitan areas. Strange.

Thanks for the quick replies, much appreciated and I can feel the money burning a hole in my pocket now!!

That explains it clearly, PC World trying to demonstrate anything is a joke.

they should stick to things they know about,,,and that's very little.

You were lucky! When I went into a branch of PC World in November, they only had a non-working dummy!

Later, I went into a branch of Dixons where (amazingly and atypically) I found someone who was able to demonstrate one fairly well. Seemingly he had had one installed in his car for a few days, and had been using it in anger. I still managed to floor him with a few technical questions though!

I hope that you’re not referring to a member of their staff! Laughing

Target price for a TomTom Go seems to be £360, although you may need to get it in airport / ferry to France. PC World were expensive when I last looked. I got mine from Amazon, but Comet were about the same price and eXpansys are competitive too. Also some of the ads on the right here do good price. But it seems to be a volatile market at the moment.
