Is it at all possible to have the speed limit of the camera displayed on the screen along with the camera warning. IE if the TTgo indicates a camera ahead, can the limit of the road also be displayed, then a quick glance at the speed indicator warns you of the correct speed.

I know its the responsabilty of the driver to know the speed of the road, signs, distance between street lights etc. But if we were all that good things like this wouldn't be rquired.

Im sure ive read in one of these forums that some one at GPS world has a contact at Tomtom.

This is already offered on the PocketPC version via the 3rd party POI utilities such as CheckPOInt which read this information from the POI entry.

Beacuse it is handled differently it's not possible to offer this feature on the GO.

Suppose we were to group the speed camers locations by the prevailing speed limit rather than (or as well as) camera type.

We could have poi's called SC30, SC40, SC50, SC60 & SC70 to group 30mph, 40mph etc cameras. Then, each group could have a custom icon, to tell us whether it was a 30, 40, 50, 60 or 70mph limit. Equally, each pio group could have a different sound attached to distinguish the different limits.

Would that not work? I know it means a bit of work to group the cameras this way but we must have loads of camera watchers out there by now.

That is one of the things that we are currently looking at. The problem is that it will not be too reliable until we have managed to survey the majority of the locations to get the speed (and camera type) and then updated the information in the database.

Mike,

Thats excellent news. But surely, we can help (we being the great unwashed legions of POI users). I'd be happy to survey the Wakefield area for example.

Is there anything we can do to assist this endeavour?

You certainly can.

Unfortunately the TomTom GO is not the best device for recording POIs.

Basically what we need is to determine the following:
Camera Position (Lon/Lat co-ordinates)
Current reference (or NEW)
Camera type (Gatso/Red Light/Specs/Mobile)
Confirmation of location (Confirmed/Delete)
Prevailing Speed limit of camera
Ideally the Camera Location should be taken at the start of the markers in the road. (Try explaining that to a policeman "Why have you stopped in the middle of the Road Sir?")

The format best suited is a plain text file with the different items seperated with commas with each camera on a new line for example:

lon,lat,Ref,Type,Confirmed,Speed
0.46145,51.57234,GATSOXXX,Red Light,Confirmed,30

These should be mailed to cameras at pocketgpsworld.com Oldie will then pick up these files and convert them into the correct camera database format.

You could also create custom POI files for each category and capture the POI using the TomTom GO and then emailing the files to cameras at pocketgpsworld.com.
