Just browsing the TT Web Site and came across the TTG Alternative Mount Kit @ €19.00 which doesn't look too bad as there are Air Vent, Swivel & Gooseneck Mounting options.

See: http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=43&Language=1

But it also refers to a TTG Docking Show that isn't included, and I can't find that anywhere. Looking at the pictures you need something (the dosking shoe?) to connect the Mounts to the TTG anyone come across this or any ideas?

I interpreted this as meaning that the mount attached to the back of the Go, which you then ran on battery rather than docking it to the mount / 12VDC adapter. Has anyone seen one of these beasties yet?

How will it fit? The round part I take it will attatch to the windscreen, how will the TT Go attatch to the other end of the mount?

I presume if you were to use one of these mounts it will bring the TT Go closer to you as the arm is longer than the standard one you get in the box when you buy a TT Go, if it does, am I right in thinking that you could then have your TT Go in the centre of your car instead of having it on the drivers right hand side?

I've never tried but if your TT Go is positioned in the centre of the car will you get less reflection off the screen in summertime?

I have always had my TTG in the centre of the screen on the original mount, and have not noticed a problem with screen reflections.

Having said that I have a pair of Oakleys Polarisied Sunglasses and for some reason these being polarisied turn the screen black anyway.

I just wanted to mount the TTG in the centre of the Car off the Centre Air Vent and this kit looks ideal, but I cant see how it connects to the TTG with the connection shown on the end of the Gooseneck Mount, hence where I think the Docking Shoe is required, but no details anywhere.

Elsewhere it's been suggested that the other end could attach to the round silver disc with the Tomtom logo on it covering the speaker. Looks a bit flimsy to me on mine, but I guess we need to se a kit in the flesh to work it out. The only thing that slightly troubles me is whether mounting the Go nearer the driver by attaching it to the air vent will compromise the GPS reception. At least the standard mount plonks the Go in the middle of the screen where it presumably "sees" plenty of sky.

Good point will try my TTG in the desired position and see if I get full reception.

Not sure on connecting to the disc though, surely it would deaden the sound somewhat? plus the clips look to fixed in the pictures. It the TTG Shoe Mount that is throwing me. I have emaile TT Tech Support to ask.

Reply from TT Support:

Dear Mr Cox,

The Alternative Mounting Kit also includes an Adhesive plate which attaches to the Gooseneck mount (see item # 4 at this link: http://www.tomtom.com/products/section.php?ID=43&Section=50&Language=1 )

The Permanent Docking Kit has a recommended retail price of €249 and will be available at car accessory and after market specialists from the end of January 2005.

We hope to have answered your question to your satisfaction.
With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team

I have the kit.
item5 is an adapter that connects to item 1, 2 or 3. The docking shoe (the part your GO clicks onto) can then be mounted to item 5.
The disk is for the suction cup, if you don't want to stick it to your window.

Right think I understand now thanks for the reply.

By the Docking Shoe, to confirm it is as you state the part that the TTG clicks into on the existing mount supplied with the TTG and not something you have to buy in addition.

Final question, does this mounting solution allow for the power to be connected to the back of the mount/shoe?

Correct, it's the part supplied with the original mount.

And yes, there is still plenty of room to connect the power to the docking shoe.

I really am as thick as two - nay four - short planks but for the life of me I can't see how a Go fixes to this bit of kit. Please help!

As I see it you take of the bottom part of the standard supplied mount, the part the TTG Clips in to. This then attaches via an adapter supplied in the Alternative Mounting Kit to you choice of the supplied mounts, Air Vent, Gooseneck or fixed.

Steve,
you are entirely right.

The picture shows the original docking shoe of your GO, attached to the alternative mount.
The GO itself clicks on the shoe (right side in the picture).
