German media have come up with an interesting story around the naming of the new European GPS system. Looks like the name was already taken, and ESA will have to look for another name...
Here is a rough translation from the german news magazine TagesSchau. _________________ Lutz

I appreciate that this is a translation body, but at then end the words "The European satellites are to break the government inspection department monopoly of the USA with navigation. Until 2008 are to be established the global system." made me laugh.
Seems they are not just GPS sats up there owned by the Americans, but also "Inspection satellites". I think we can read that as spy sats with a gps module attached! _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk) |

Ha funny. No, the systran engine just chokes at the "GPS" abbreviation and translates it into something governmental. _________________ Lutz
