Newbie needs help loading 4.40 update

Please can anyone help me to load the 4.40 software update? When I run the update, I am told that the SD card (standard 128MB) is full. So do I have to delete all the files on the card (I have backed them up to my PC) and then run the update?
Does the update reinstall everything from scratch , or do I need to keep certain files? There is no "readme" file with the update which explains what the update does, i.e is it an add-on to the existing software, or is it a complete replacement?
I may be being dense, but surely many people running this update will be in a similar position (128 MB card and not too computer savvy), so an explicit instruction on this point from Tom Tom would have been helpful.

Just remove the voice/Languages that you dont need to make room for the update..the update is actually 4.42 availible from the TOmTom site..

Thanks for that. The download unzipped version is 3.28 MB (incl installer) so I guess I need to remove 4 voices (1 MB each) and it will fit.
I think I was having a brainstorm as I was thinking the download was 3.28 GB, and therefore replaced everything on the SD card, and the rest being the installation program!

Why not remove all the voices except english? That will free up room for the safety camera POI database as well.
