TT3 Alternative Route querks

I have had my TT3 for a few months and have only just really used it on a proper trip, not to the paper shop and back.
I travelled around the M25 and the traffic got too bad so i decided to use the alternative route method and avoid the M25. What i didn't realise was that it only avoided one junction of the M25, the next one i would pass and then sent me back on it. Surely if i want to avoid a whole stretch of Motorway it should let me. Is what i describe above correct or did i do something wrong or did TT3 have a funny 5 minutes.
Another thing i noticed on my trip was that the crossing of the M25 and A121 show a separate piece of A121 to the left which resulted in TT3 asking me to do a U-turn.
Very clever.
I am using a Ipaq 2210 with latest bios, TT3 v 3.03 and GPS assist (very clever tool) + PocketGPS camera database

The problem with alternative routes is that there may be none available. For example you just missed the last free exit and are parking on the motorway - now calculating an alternative is useless.

Did you tell it to not use the M25, or just to avoid roadblocks for x miles?
