Just driven past 2 gatsos not on database. i have set up my own poi group called "new gatsos". I parked beside them and marked them via gps position. Problem is when I got home I could not work out how to retrieve the coordinates. Can this be done and if so how? I have a magellan meridian with street mapping on so I got the coordinates that way but I would still like to know if it can be done with the ttg. 8O

There's a freeware program called PoiEdit which can create or edit and display the co-ordinates in existing .ov2 POI files, which is the format that TTG uses for user-added POI lists.

With PoiEdit, you can extract the Long and Lat decimal values given by the TTG to your new entries in your POI list. Using the USB link, copy the new extra-camera .ov2 file that you have got your TTG to create, from the GB-Map folder to somewhere on your PC, and download and run PoiEdit. Load in your POI .ov2 file, and then click on the entries one by one to display the co-ordinates in decimal and in D/M/S.

Hi Lomaxter,

If you haven’t already done so, would you mind sending the details of the GATSOs in? The email address is:

Cameras (at) PocketGPSWorld (dot) com

Information required for each camera:

Longitude and latitude
Camera type (Gatso, Red Light, etc)
Road name and number
Speed limit of road at camera site

I have a hardware button set up on GPSAssist to capture new cameras when I pass them. They are saved to a “new camera” POI. When convenient to do so, I take the new camera POI and pass it through Richard’s WinOV2 program so that I can obtain the Longitude and latitude of the cameras, which I then send in for adding to the database.

I think you can also set up a hardware button on CheckPOInt to capture new POIs.

Yep i have already reported them road number and long/lat anyway. I have another question now. What about cameras on your database that dont exist. Do you want them reporting to you. I have found 1 in Luton and 1 in St. Albans that as far as I know have never existed. They are marked as Gatsos and not mobiles and I have never seen mobiles in these places either!

Yes please report any necessary changes to the database so that we can have the most up-to-date database possible. That includes Cameras to delete, move, add, or even to change database (i.e. a camera that’s reported as a GATSO but is actually a Red Light Camera).

We’re also trying to get the speed limits for all cameras so that one day we can offer as database that can warn you of the speed limit as well. However this mammoth undertaking will take time! ;)

Has anyone fathomed a hardware button option for recording new safety camera locations in TT3 for Plam v 4.40 using a Palm T3.

I can only work out how to do it through drilling down the menu system to the POI menus which is obviously not practicle during normal driving ? Apparently POI Warner has this facility, but is not available for Palm (as yet) !

Ok, thanks for the info Dave...having mentioned POI Warner, I'm not sure that I would buy it anyway even if it were available to Palm users, as the Palm v4.40 POI warning facility and the excellent Pocket GPS World 'free' database have never missed a Safety Camera that I've come across as yet !!

Yes, I already use the nationalsafetycameras website. Very few of the sites give grid references/coordinates for the camera positions. Some sites give zoomable maps, but it is a very tedious task to extract camera positions. Others just give an overview map or list the name of the road on which the camera is sited.

The most up-to-date information comes from you the users :D so please keep sending in details of the new cameras that you find and, of course, any errors that you notice in the database.

Oldie, thanks for all the time & effort this must take. At the end of the day we can report the cameras but they still have to be logged and sorted and put into the end product which keeps us all safe. Well done, and keep up the good work.
