A friend of mine has a lot of problems with his Tomtom Go - a long fix time, losing GPS signals. He was desparate, so tried everything, the wonder happend when he reset Tomtom (reset hole on the unit's bottom). He claims, all his problems were gone. I'll try it myself.
Just to let know, and wonder does anyone has a similar experience.
Regards

All the reset hole will do is perform a soft reset on GO, which essentially is like soft resetting a PDA or rebooting a PC. It won't do anything to fix long TTFF's because this is something to do with the GPS Receiver and resetting GO doesn't clear down the Almanac table either.
I suspect it's just a fluke and that your friend has an athermic windscreen. Easiest way to test this is to goto the satellite status screen, see how many sats are there, then move GO outside the car and see if this rises by 3-4. If it does, he has an athermic windscreen and may well need a Re-Rad antenna. |

But if the software has undesired features (bugs) lurking in the background, then resetting the machine will have an effect.
I used to notice this a lot on the early software releases that I tested. I cant say that I have noticed any difference recently. There could of course be a set of circumstances that cause a memory leak, or simmilar issue that can have this effect. If that was the case though I would expect that more people would have noticed it. _________________ Mike Barrett |

If my Babelfish translation can be believed, there seems to be an opinion on this Dutch TTG forum that performance issues after the 4.40 upgrade are fixed by a hard reset. |

To be precise:
http://www.mijntomtomgo.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66
btw for non-dutch: in that forum a lot of Go-owners have similar experiences. Resetting seems to be a solution for several problems. Just try it, it won't hurt... |
