Could any Nuvicam users tell me what you think about the picture quality of recordings during both day and night?
Thanks. _________________ TT GO 1005 |

Don't normally do this but going to answer my own question here.
Daytime - Generally OK. Some distortion when freeze framing but it's possible to identify a number plate.
Nightime - Rubbish! Couldn't read one single number plate, front or rear as they were all lit up light bright rectangles on the replay. Even plates which were not in my beam pattern were unreadable. Significant amounts of graining in the picture too. What a disappointment.

These dashcams seem to be hit and miss. I've been recently reading up and it's surprising how bad some seem to be.
The EPrance mini series seem quite popular but seem to be prone to failing after a year and the Chinese makers wash their hands. They also only have adjustment in one plane once installed. The one that seems to stick out is the Nextbase 402g which gets good reviews.
With my -2k annual mileage now I'm holding off. _________________ Satnav:

I was unable to find any camera specs for the NuviCam before testing it and now I wonder if it's something similar to the Garmin DashCam 20.
The DashCam 20 gets good reviews for daytime performance but poor for nightime.
I was enjoying the Garmin interface too after using TomTom's for over 12years now. Voice control worked a treat, any POI I asked for was available with an accurate location, the more graphical navigation map screen was pleasing too. _________________ TT GO 1005 |

It does, and has good image quality.

I've been looking at getting one after a recent series of near misses e.g. someone cutting across me in lane 1 from lane 3 to the exit at high speed on the motorway, red light chancers and general loonies who seem intent on taking out others while they commit suicide.
It should be possible to get one for under £125. |
