Hi All,
I run both the pocket GPS and Garmin Speed Cameras in parallel now. I used to used to use a hybrid approach (deleting gatso warnings from PGPS downloads to benefit from directional warnings on fixed cams- useful on these horrific 'smart' motorways).
However sometimes the big red Garmin scamera warnings would be noticeably absent. Turning the sat nav off and on again seemed to re-instate them. This is a relatively recent phenomenon. I now wonder if it is linked to SMART Link running (GPRS scamera updates). I installed that more recently.
If my iPhone loses 3G or perhaps the bluetooth connection to the 3598 then the camera warnings may all stop?? Could be something else entirely tho,,,,
Has anyone else noticed this strange coming and going of the Garmin camera warnings? I'd like to go back to my mixed database approach again but prefer knowing where the GATSOs are ! HADECS3 harder to spot in light traffic when pressing on |

I can't see how Smartlink traffic would affect a downloaded camera database.
What we do know is that Garmin has an annoying feature of not informing you of a camera if you are below the camera speed and not accelerating.
Presumably you are using the standard PGPSW CSV download straight into POILoader? _________________ Satnav:

The SmartLink features do affect the built-in features of the 3598 - I reported similar issue to Garmin that if you used the SmartLink Camera service linked to the 3598 and if you lost 3G or switch phone off, you lose the abililty to use the cameras on the device until you reset the unit.
So if still happening it looks like they have not fixed this issue yet. |

OK thanks... it took me a while to zero in on the SMARTlink as the potential cause. Useful to hear others have had the same sort of issues.
I've disabled the SMART link now (switched off blue tooth - deleted app from phone and 'forgotten' the sat nav on iPhone bluetooth menu). Will run full versions of PGPS database alongside my Garmin Scam warnings for a while until I'm sure the gatso's are being properly reported via Cyclops.... And while the covert HADECS 3 roll-out in in progress. |
