You can set the latest nuvis to mass storage mode, mine are, as I prefer them that way but the idea of mtp mode is to stop folks 'fiddling' and creating problems for themselves, in particular it hides the .system folder whatever you set in Windows |
Not that I want to fiddle but how is it changed (too lazy to look it up) _________________ Satnav:

Somehow I knew you'd ask
1. Start NUVI by itself and go to Volume Screen.
2. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
3. The Developers Screen will pop up
4. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
5. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
6. Shut down NUVI and connect to PC
7. It should now connect in mass storage mode.
As an alternative to step 1 above, you can bring up the Nuvi's "trip information" screen by tapping the speed icon, then press and hold the speedometer for about 10 seconds to access the developer screen. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Thanks - funnily enough they actually were in a folder called screenshots, but never having taken one before the folder had not been created until now.
Other than taking photos for the various screens available what function does it serve in the general scheme of things ?
However, having taken 4 pictures none show the dotted line - so back to the drawing board on that one!!
cheers

Well apart from using it for the occasional screenshot then nothing. But all Garmins that I own have the ability, even handhelds. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Well I have a Garmin handheld that cannot take a screenshot.
It's my good old eTrex Vista.
It has a mere 24 Mb of space for maps, so not much left over for screenshots and suchlike.
(But it's much smaller and lighter than modern devices).
It cost more to buy than modern items, as well !

For Sussamb
This link to photobox of my 1440T shows the dotted line that has appeared when my sat-nav went back to 2014.40, now corrected and updated, but the line survives
http://www.photobox.co.uk/my/photo?album_id=3294213486&photo_id=8576398650#8576398650
Has anybody any advice on what caused it - will it cause any grief, and can it be cleared away by access to any software?
cheers

You can't directly. Try to sort the permissions on photobox. I don't use it so can't offer any advice. |

Thanks - I had never heard of it until Sussamb suggested using it. So will try to do a workaround with it, unless somebody can advise how they put screenshots on the forum?
cheers
