Planning to buy USA map for trip.
Wonder if it is worthwhile taking traffic aerial ? Was not sure if this was linked to UK/Europe maps that came with unit. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 3597LMT |

Traffic won't work in the US, completely different system.
There are numerous free OSM maps for the US which may fit your needs rather than buy Garmin's US one. If you do decide to buy think carefully about which format. Maps on sd cards cannot be updated but aren't locked to one unit, so if this is a one-off trip you could sell the card when you get back. Download is locked to the unit, and cannot be updated. DVD is locked to the unit and can be updated. Choose wisely _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Handy to know, before I ask

This is interesting. I already use free OSM maps on Basecamp and my GPSMAP 62S for geocaching whenever I go abroad. They are generally at least as detailed as OS 25K maps or better.
Would they be usable on a 2598 or 3598?
Would the routing and interface (lanes and junction images etc) be the same as the Garmin maps. (wouldn't think so.) |

If you expect/hope to make several trips to the US - then consider buying a US product from Best Buy once you get to the US. Get one that will includes Lifetime Maps.
Then you do not have to worry about losing/breaking your UK device while away. |
