I upload the whole zip file, it obviously worked the very first time I loaded it 18 months ago, it was only recently I reported the speed change of that local camera but it hadn't changed on my device that I was alerted to it. I havnt done any thing different, as you cant tell which file you have on your device I will be forever wondering |

Is the ability to view text files another feature that hasn't made it to the newer TomToms? |

That functionality (reading text files) hasn't been in any TomTom model for about five years or so! _________________ David |

@ bmuskett & M8TJT
I'm sure that you're aware that there's a copyright notice, introduced, I think, as part of the anti-piracy measures, contained in each downloaded file (I've just checked and it is included in the MyTomTom Zip). That could be changed to include the date or the version number! _________________ Jock

Does the .zip file actually go onto the TT and if so, how will you be able to read it to get the date from it?
I fail to see how that would help establish what date the camera database is on your TT anyway. It will tell you the date of the database on your computer, but the file date will tell you that. The problem is to see what's loaded on the device, not what's on your computer. With the possibility of having multiple downloads on your computer, there is always the possibility of loading the wrong one onto your device.
Obviously the OP thinks he is loading the latest database, but equally obviously, because he has old data on his TT, he is not or there are some old files still on his computer or TT that are being loaded as well. |

It may well have worked the first time, but have not overwritten the files on subsequent updates.
Since it seems to update OK for me when I extract the files first I would have thought it was worth trying that method if you have a problem in the future. Unfortunately we can't be sure if that would have worked for you this time as you've already deleted the cameras and reinstalled them. _________________ Anita

as the installation guide, download the whole zip file then in Mydrive add content to pois browse find file on PC then click install, surely if I was doing something wrong it would never have uploaded, surely I cant be the only one having problems, but the only reason I found out was that the camera I submitted hadn't changed after a few month, how many folks are updating without knowing if it has worked or not, Mydrive doesn't tell you it is writing over old files, it just says`UPDATING PLEASE WAIT` |

I don't, but "your" camera is correct on my device. _________________ Anita

I didn't use that feature much anyway so didn't realise it had gone. And I haven't bought a new TomTom for a long time. We have a Go V3 and an XL IQ.
I didn't appreciate how restrictive the new TomToms are. So you can't use Windows Explorer to see what's on them? |

No, you can't. The user has no access to the file system on the new devices. _________________ David |

Are the following features, which I use on my 940, available on these devices?
1) Browse map
2) Find - Address - City centre
3) Find POI nearby and select a POI category from a list. Once a category is selected you are then presented with a list of the nearby POI names for the selected category? _________________ Jock

On my "new" (I daren't go any newer!) GO1005, Browse map is now View map and your option is just Address.
So ...
1 Yes.
2 Yes. The method is different, you type city name and select it, then city centre is the first option as opposed to streetname
3 Yes.
However, don't let the above attractions tempt you into getting one - you'll be very disappointed. Treat your 940 with care and love and chocolates. _________________ Dennis

Simple suggestion to help indicate (if not actually PROVE) you are uploading the latest versions...
Use the MyDrive functionality to delete ONE of the PGPSW camera POI categories.
Then update ALL of them as normal and if the deleted category has reappeared it's a pretty safe bet that you've updated successfully.
The best way would be to delete them ALL before updating, but the stupid MyDrive software only lets you delete one file at a time, so removing all of the PGPSW files would take forever. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |
