as sussamb says,
you need to get the updates from myDashboard on Garmin website - if your device has voice commands then under the system updates it should show it's installing voices (which are mainly voice recognition files) to get your unit functioning properly again
it's total pain, especially when it leaves 1.5GB of space on the internal memory |

I have now binned Garmin mapping - just too buggy and unfriendly. OSM is simple, free and arguably more up to date. It also continues to work happily with Mapsource and XP |

Only problem with OSM is that routing can be terrible, plus of course things like full address search don't work, or have you found an OSM map where it does? |

Incidentally for anyone still having problems updating maps with v3.2.4 of Express it seems that you should only insert a sd card when Express asks for it. Having the sd card already installed seems to be causing issues. |

Not sure what you men by terrible routing. With OSM mapping in Mapsource (and I presume Basecamp) I just create routes (normally by rubberbanding) and send them to the device
I did once find a hiccup in deepest darkest Spain where there was an unexplained gap of about 1km in the road mapping which did cause some iniitial confusion
In my experience address search has always been clunky in MS, but if I do need an exact address or postcode (four character) I find it first using the totally amazing PocketEarth (OSM) app on my iPhone/iPad (also available for Android I believe)
BTW, your previous two posts were timed at about 0830 - it's now 0824?
ps - just noted my own timeline!!! |

Yes, OK if you do it that way, I meant if you try to calculate routes on your nuvi
And in any case many nuvis will simply recalculate the route based on the map they have loaded and their own settings, then again you might not be using a nuvi |

Actually, I'm a bit of an imposter here as I don't use a Nuvi. I have a rather advanced GPSR where you input start and destination then modify the route by simply inserting map/via/waypoints ..... it's called a Garmin Quest |

Got to agree.
Three times it said "Voice British-English, Serena (TTS3) 2.00" needed to be installed, though it seemed to have been installed at the first attempt. After the second failed attempt and with Serena still waiting to be installed, I visited myDashboard where there was no mention of Serena but there was a message saying the keyboard needed updating. I updated the keyboard.
After a re-start and a check on myDashboard which indicated no further updates, I returned to Express. Surprise, surprise - everything is now up to date, nothing more waiting to be installed.
Not what I'd expected, but all is well. |

You do need to disconnect and then boot your nuvi for the update to 'take', you may very well have done that but if not that would explain why Express is now not reporting it. |

I disconnected and re-booted the device as directed. Very odd. But then software these days seems to have a mind of its own. |
