The SatMap route planner isn't free. Bought from the SatMap shop and bundled as part of the Active 10 UK PLUS you pay £70 more than the standard Active 10 and bought stand-alone it's £60. In that sense the OS getamap is better value comparing £18 with £60. However, providing the walkhighlands functionality is OK for you then that would seem to be the way forward.

Yes, sorry - since mine came in the 'bundle', I forgot that it had a price if bought on its own.
However, although the official list price is £60, the effective price when bought in a bundle is much less than this. In street price terms (e.g. Amazon) there is only a difference of £65 between the basic Active 10 and the bundle - where the latter also contains:
* Full UK 1:50k map (List price £210!)
* Re-chargeable power pack (List price £52.50)
* Access to on-line planner (List price £60)
On a pro-rata basis (getting £322.5 worth for £65) the route planner works out at about 12 quid! _________________ Roger
