Any coincidence between the following?
- Christmas is coming - a major time for retails of all consumer goodies
- TomTom has released some half-arsed and incomplete bit of software with their shiny new SatNav
- TomTom built up a huge debt they have to pay back after buying Teleatlas for far too much money

I have been pondering what Sat Nav to buy as I now do a lot more driving around the country but have been holding back because of TomTom's omissions on the POI.
Personally I've never been interested in whether you can you can view photos or listen to music on a sat nav so find these features unnecessary as other gadgets do them better. I simply want reliable map coverage and a reliable mobile camera alert database. Bluetooth connectivity and traffic alerts, great.
I would not buy a TomTom at the moment, on principal, because of their withdrawal of 3rd party POI and would encourage other people to hold back from purchasing one until they actually do reinstate the features their customers want. They should realise that their are alternatives out there and customers vote with their wallets and what ever loyalties they may have to a brand this cannot be taken for granted
Given your standing in the GPS world you are in an ideal position to conduct a survey on what your members want in terms of sat nav features, even if its apparent to you and us, TomTom need to listen to their customers rather than treat us with contempt. Clearly if TomTom's own speed camera database falls down on the job or fails to satisfy their customers needs then they need a clear message sent to them, especially as a top end model its an expensive purchase and why would you pay this if it doesn't deliver?

TomToms navigation, mount and HD Traffic
Navigons Active Lane Guidance and City3Dv2
Garmins build (3790t) and Screen Resolution (3790t)
and
Navmans simplicity of menu structure
And and a really useful POI loader which NONE of the above offer
And we want it with a years free connected traffic and lifetime maps for £50ish

Why on earth should anybody hand over their hard earned money to buy one of TomTom's new devices and have to wait for the promised functionality to be released? Just because TomTom have promised a functionality doesn't mean that they will deliver it.
I admit to being a huge fan of TomTom products but I would urge anybody not to buy these new TomTom devices until all functionality has been added. In fact you would be much better off buying a reconditioned LIVE model with the Latest Map Guarantee.

Totally agree. In a similar manner I bought an early Humax 9300T PVR with hardware USB port on the understanding that it would be enabled in a future update to allow extracting recordings. They reneged on this agreement and newer models no longer have the USB port. _________________ Lets be careful out there !

OT for this thread but you can organise your POIs in folders on your PC when using POILoader.

Couldn’t agree more, my One V3 will have to make do until TOMTOM make a suitable replacement available.
I couldn’t care less about mp3's etc, I just want a satnav that is lightweight (Velcro is my mount) fits in my pocket (just) and supports 3rd party Poi's with Ogg sound files, a microphone for hands free would be nice.
Until then I will either hang on to what I have, or go elsewhere

Quite a simple system in the scheme of things but nobody seems to do it
Missing a trick, I think
POILoader does this if you select Manual Mode. It uses the icons and sound files you put in your upload folder and you can set custom proximity alerts for all your POI categories.
