Last Saturday night my wife and I were in the unenviable position of having to dial 999 to report a “Hit & Run” incident in “The New Forest”, Hampshire involving an adult cow and a motor vehicle. To our amazement Hampshire Police did not have a system that would accept a latitude and longitude (courtesy of our TT 950 Live) only a road name and location which is great if you know where you are or it is daylight. Using “TT Help” we gave the information that was displayed which did not give a road name or number and was told that it was not enough information and it could take a while for a police officer and Verderer to arrive.

After almost 90 minutes the police arrived and we gave our statements and returned to our hotel.

Does anyone know if this police force are unique or it “The Norm”

Impossible to say without comments from others in similar situations.

Does seem rather off though that a Lat Lon could not be acted upon but the flip side is there are a myriad of formats and methods in which Lat Lon can be recorded.

I guess it is down to what the control room systems can handle. Presumably the TomTom could tell you the road number or was it unclassified?

I found the same with the AA when I needed to ring them a while ago.

I was stuck on a remote farmhouse with no road names known and the Lat/Long from my TomTom was no use to the dispatcher.
I had to zoom out on the map and describe the turnings from the nearest town.

Ridiculously, when the patrolman actually arrived, he was using his TomTom!
