I have spent the last 4 - 5 days trying to update myKenwood DNX5220BT device with the speed came, it did not work, have been reading alt the suggestions at the forum site, still no success.

This is what I have done.

1. Got the garmin POI loader
2. Made a folder – speed camera database
3. Made a folder called garmin, with another folder called poi
4. Made the file poi.gpi
5. Did set the nero express burn as you tell in the instructions on this site
6. Burned the complete garmin folder to a CD as well as to an DVD+RW
7. Nothing happens at all

Have checked the device work perfectly with DVD as well as CD, and can read regulare Kenwood update

What am I doing wrong?

Jacob

Hi and welcome.

Can you try without the poi folder? ie. x:\garmin\poi.gpi

Did you finalise the disk?

Did you put the unit in NAV mode?

I am pretty new in this, I have tried the way Kenwood suggest, as well as the instruction list her at this site.
However I am not sure about this finalising the disk, Actually I have just done according to the animations showed at the instruction list.
I am danish, and a very much BEGINNER

in the english version of nero there is a tick-box for 'allow files to be added later (multisession)'

you MUST untick this option in order to 'finalise' the disc.

hope that helps?

Hi,

Are you sure that the folder you burn contains just the file? In POI loader I once did not select the correct folder that contained the speed camera database and ended up burning a folder with nothing in it.
I also suggest using a rewritable CD - cheaper. The only other suggestion might be whether the units are sensitive to the type of CD i.e. whether a CD -R or CD +R. I use a Sony CDRW 700 disc and have had no problems.

HTH,

Andy Thomas

Hi
I have done all of you suggestions, I am sure it is not because the unit it is to sensitive, because I have updated the Kenwood software with out any problems.

I guess I must give up, which is really annoying, but I canīt thing of anything that I havenīt tried.

The Kenwood USA site has additional manuals. One thing I noticed is the file names use a different case
According to the manual the folder should be Garmin and the file POI.gpi
It could be the firmware is case sensitive

I'll be updating mine tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes

ok it worked
Folder called Garmin and the file POI.gpi in that exact case.
Also make sure you finalise the disk and nothing else is written to it
