Destinator (or the company the now owns them) are no help, nor are Shinco.
The Shinco has been so reliable and tough that I'd hate to chuck it out for want of an up-to-date map.

I've had a Shinco GM-400 for two years. The maps were out of date when I bought it and I've not been able to get map updates. Recently it has been refusing to find the satellites, I guess it is something to do with the receiver.
So my suggestion would be to buy a new one
I bought a Garmin Nuvi 300T for £88 which is probably as much as you would pay for map updates. It comes with lifetime traffic updates and a free 2009 map update which includes all the Europe maps too.
