It's OK. TBH few of the factory fit systems are anywhere near as good as the best portable devices. The only benefits are larger screen in most cases, hard to nick and they are linked to the speedo and have gyros so can maintain position info even in tunnels etc

Only by buying an updated map CD from Peugeot or the map provider at a cost

Unlikely

Yes

Visit the dealers, sit down comfortably and say 'How much is the software when I want to update'? Then have the 'pills' ready. Wink

And then if you can delete the SatNav option, pocket the £1k to 2k saving and rejoice Smile

I have a monochrome RT3 in my Peugeot 407 and I actually find it very good. Mine only display's the next instruction but the vocal instructions are excellent. It even reduces the volume of the CD you're playing and announces it over the top.

TMC *WORKS* unlike the handhelds you can buy and you won't have to worry about the local unsavoury characters borrowing it indefinatly..

The software can be updated for free, visit the forum below for downloads. The software actually updates the entire head unit not just the sat nav.

Maps can be found on Ebay for a reasonable price.

Good to know, thanks. Software is free yes, maps are not.

'Pirated' maps may be found on eBay for a good price, genuine current legitimate maps won't be.

I picked up a sealed, pressed original on Ebay for a 1/4 of the price that the dealerships wanted.

I'm sure there are pirated versions on Ebay but I did manage to get a legitimate bargain and I was not promoting bootleg versions..

In which case my apologies. That'll teach me to always think the worst of eBay! Was it the latest map?

From memory it was the latest they'd done back then. Without going an ejecting it I couldn't tell you the exact version. The main reason for me buying it was to get the TMC licence for the service to work in the UK.
