If you're confident in backing up your device and copying folders, there's another trick you might want to try over the weekend.
Firstly, make a full backup of your device using Windows Explorer.
On your PC
Make a copy of the following folder: Start / My Documents / TomTom / Home
Then, delete the CONTENTS of the following folder, leaving the empty folder in place: Start / My Documents / TomTom / Home / Downloads
On your device
Remove the existing map folder -
Open My Computer double click on the TomTom removable disk
You will then see a map folder - UK & ROI, Western Europe or Western and Central Europe (depending upon which device you have).
Delete this folder in its entirety.
Download and install the new map -
Connect the device to your PC
Open TomTom Home
Ensure that you are logged in to the account relating to the device in question.
Click on 'Update my Go'
A list of updates should appear (some previously downloaded maps may also appear in this list, so check map versions by clicking on 'More Info'), select the map that you wish to download.
Click on 'Download and Install Updates'
Once this process is complete, disconnect the device from your PC by selecting the disconnect option in Home.
When it reboots, do NOT reconnect the device to your PC and it will load up with your newly installed map.
If this doesn't work, all you have to do is restore your device with the backup you've just made and copy back the Start / My Documents / TomTom / Home folder to its original location on your PC.
Edited to make removal and installation instructions clearer _________________ Andy

Before you dive in with GPS_Fan's advice....
You say you can see two maps now. Can you just confirm whether you are seeing them using "Add Maps, Traffic, Voices etc" or in "Update my device", and where it says they are. |

If you are sure the purchase has gone through, it must be worth giving TT a ring on Monday morning.

No
There was a paragraph which began "Remove the existing map folder:" and then gave the instructions necessary for removing the map. Next, there was a paragraph which began "Download and install the new map:" and then gave the instructions for downloading.
I wondered about underlining or using bold text, but thought that might cause confusion.
I've now edited my previous post accordingly in the hope that it's now clearer. _________________ Andy

If you deleted the map folder from your device and emptied the "Downloads" folder on your PC, as described above, you should at least have been offered your existing map to download (assuming that it's less than a year old).
What happened when you disconnected and rebooted your device after attempting the above process? Did it boot up with a map, or give a "No Map Found" error? _________________ Andy

Is the e-mail address used for the purchase the same as the address used for the TT account for this device? _________________ Andy

According to the contact details page on their Website:
Quote: | UK English
From the UK 08451610009 Monday - Friday: 08:00 to 18:30 GMT |
I also noticed it's saying on their homepage at the moment:

Have you checked with your credit card company to confirm whether payment was taken??
I received a second e-mail from TT about 15 minutes after the invoice confirming that the payment had been authorised. The subject heading of the second e-mail was "Your TomTom payment has been authorised" _________________ Andy

This is usually completed within 24 hours; you will then receive a confirmation e-mail.
