I keep seeing adverts for these GPS, which seem to sell cheaply even though postage is high. Does anyone know if they are value for money? Or are they a scam?

probably not a scam but you'll be getting a basic WinCE based GPS device with unknown software that is likely not legit.

If you want to load alternative software then they may be worth buying but if you want a decent PND I'd spend your money on something better known.

£80..... and unfortunately it is now sold-out.
Have a look on Amazon.co.uk, they have a Binatone unit and an Acer unit at under £70 (just by a penny).
If you are happy with a used unit, amazon has plenty at lower prices too, but remember that these will probably have older maps and no manufacturer garantee, however it could be a better known brand of unit and with more functions than just "the cheapest".

Given you can often get TomTom ONE's and Garmin's base Nuvi for £100 or thereabouts any of these unknown or lesser known brands are a false economy in my opinion.

Darren is spot on.

The other problem that can be encountered is trying to use poi's on them. Some require other programs to be purchased to be able to use add on poi's for warnings(eg safety cameras from PGPSW) and some need hacking. The problem with the ones that require hacking is if no one has done it.

Not sure you will even get a warranty problem sorted if needed. So overall they are not cheaper.
