Has anyone else got a MotoRazr2 V8 ?

Mine arrived a couple of days ago and despite repeated attempts I cannot get it to work as a handsfree device with my Tom Tom 710.

The phone and Tom Tom pair up but I cannot make or receive calls via the TT. When pairing the TT cannot determine the features of the phone and therefore it does not use it.

I have also tried with a Peugeot 207 care kit with similar results.

My old V3i phone works with both of these without error and I was more than happy.

I have contacted Motorola and their response is that they do not guarantee their phones to work with anything other than Motorola products. Unless I can prove there is a fault they won't do anything about it.

I'd be interested to hear other views on this.

Seems to be the way now-a-days.

There are similar problems with suport for new phones on GARMIN products. I have a 660 and several NOKIA phones and the oldest ones work fine - the newest (N80) works hands-free - but can't do SMS etc. Intermediate aged phones have different levels of working.

Gone are the days when a global communication standard meant something !

It would be so simple to ensure that things functioned at least at a basic level.

I've contacted TomTom so I'll post their reply when / if I get one.

It's probably the "fault" of the 'phone. There are many more BT profiles in use nowadays and there is no reason for manufacturers to fully support any of them. It is also alleged that some network companies also "tweak" the BT functionality to get you to use their products. GARMIN and TOMTOM support the hands free profile well. My older (non-smart) Nokia phones work 100% - including SMS.

I didn't get a reply to my question on the TT website so I rang the support line and got the following reply :-

TomTom test all phones when they come on the market for compatibility. If a phone requires a software update then TomTom will release it, but until it is released in a software update there is no information available about when it might be supported.

Sounds like a bit of a cop out answer to me, I'd like some indication that they even know about the phone and are planning on testing compatibility, but I suppose it is better than a flat 'No support will be available'

By the way I managed to connect my V8 to the 207 car kit so it looks like it is only the TomTom that has the compatibility problem.
