I've just read on another forum that although you can put multiple maps that you have bought via download on to one big SD card and use that (admittedly manually selecting the required map when you get to the border) you can't do that with maps you have bought that are already on a card as they are copy protected.
So by buying a map card from Satmap/ certain sellers you are paying more money for something that is more restricted. If you buy 3 map cards over say, a couple of months and want to put it on one card you can't...but if you do it by download you can....and save about £30 _________________ I like mapping, I like mapping, I like mapping and I like to map! |

OK All,
I've decided the time is now to bite the bullet and BUY!
Therefore can someone tell me the best place to by this product NOW either online or the street (and that have currently got stock) and get to grips with it A.S.A.P?
Hope to hear from someone soon.

Try This Page for a list of stockists, I would give the local ones a ring to check stock before travelling though - Mike |

Hi again,
I have found a store near my home town that has the SatMap in stock, but at the moment there is very little in the way of maps. Is it possible to still navigate with the map supplied with the unit or is the map just a road map?
Cheers everyone,
Richard |

Are these in Milletts or Blacks yet as Nottingham has both, and that seems to be the closest to me.
Thanks.

Mmm...do they have the map cards and bike mount in yet, though? I may have to give them a ring in the morning. _________________ I like mapping, I like mapping, I like mapping and I like to map! |

At £18.99 the bike mount seems to be a bargain compared to elsewhere but neither site mention the 'half the country at 1:50,000' map cards _________________ I like mapping, I like mapping, I like mapping and I like to map! |

Well I finally bit the bullet and purchased the SatMap Active 10 today from www.whiteandbishop.co.uk in Northampton. They only seem to have a small selection of maps at present National Park. I contacted SatMap and spoke to them regarding county maps and although they are not all ready yet they have very kindly sent me out the 1:25000 scale map for Northamptonshire. £70!?!*
Will keep you all posted.

Someone give us a decent review!!!
Did it come in a nice box?
Is it well wrapped?
Is it made in China?
Is there a decent user manual or cd?
Does it feel well built?
Do the buttons rattle?
Does the screen look easily scratchable (the availability of packs of 3 screen thingies worries me!!)
Is the screen easy to see in sunlight?
What does the base mapping look like?
Has it got any good customisable gimmicks like screensavers? _________________ I like mapping, I like mapping, I like mapping and I like to map! |

After only 7 months on pre order list and various phone calls decided to phone Neil at Rydale Rambler Pickering who had helpfully phoned a month previously to tell me what he knew which was not much
He had the last of his initial order in stock so I grabbed it
Just unpacked it from the very fancy packaging , put the supplied batteries in and the map card of North Enland 1:25 @ £59 switched on and after 5 mins to find out where in the world it was unit sprang to life with very clear OS map, seems to work beautifully but looking forward to a professional review
Literature is all of high quality and very clear even if it contains a few spelling errors
I have not yet worked out what area the map covers as there seems to be the whole country at some resolution. now need to take it for a walk
Only problem I can detect so far is that one of the soft keys is very sticky but there is a 2 year gurantee
I suspect that Satmap are filling their dealer network first before selling direct to the public not yet realising that the users of this site are going to be their best customers
Now all it needs are the maps and accessories etc but this could be a world beater |

Being a complete GPS novice I may be asking a stoopid question but do you have to stand still for the five minutes or can you start your walk/ride and it find itself (even if it doesn't tell you where you went for that 5 minutes)?
2 year warranty is good. _________________ I like mapping, I like mapping, I like mapping and I like to map! |

just checked it you are right had it zoomed in so it felt like 1:25
the literature says it takes longer when switched on for the first time then I presume it sort of "remembers "where it is
The 1:25 maps are a lot more expensive than the 1: 50 maps so what is the advantage of the 1:25 's ? |
