|
|
Hi all, I'm in the situation that I have had to get a new PDA, due to my previous one starting to hard reset itself, which has caused issues when away from my back up file.
My replacement PDA is the Fujitsu Loox C550. My previous navigation software was Navman Smart ST, which even though it had some annoying features, did what I wanted to do and on the whole I was happy with it's performance, but as it is only compatible with Windows 2003, so I am looking at what I can replace it with. I'm considering either the Navigon MN6, or TomTom Navigator 6.
The questions I have about MN6 are:
1) Is there desktop Software, to manage the set-up?
2) How good are the voice directions?
3) When in 3D mode, does it zoom in and out dependent on your speed
4) I assume that you can choose a destination based on Contacts, Favourites, Recent destinations
5) Are the options flexible enough to allow the level of control you need?
Thanks in advance for any responses _________________ HTC HD2 - Used only for Sat Nav (now using an iPhone 4 for phone)

Just thought of another question...
On the Navigon website it mentions a feature called Radar Info, does ths mean you can install a safety camera database and have warnings? _________________ HTC HD2 - Used only for Sat Nav (now using an iPhone 4 for phone)

The interface is very nice and 'direct' when you get used to it. Some nice touches. And the voice prompts from MN6 are as good as ever with the earlier Navigon software.
It's just so slow from what I saw.
Seriously seriously slow.
Even on a hp4700 - 600mhz processor.. |

Hi folks,
Anyone using this successfully in the UK yet? Is TMC working? Does it run at a decent speed now that Navigon have issued various patches?
I think young Mr Thomas was going to review it on this site but as nothing has appeared, that doesn't bode well!
Any and all feedback would be much appreciated!

Using MN6 on the Pocket Loox n100, which was the latest addition to my collection including Nuvi 300, TomTom Go, Navman n40
At first regretted the purchase (was cheap though, around £150 all in), but it has since become my favourite system of choice from all the above
It can be a little slow (probably due to the loox not MN6), when entering data, but routing speed is just fine
Where it out performs ALL the others is sensibility of mapping (very rarely takes you routes you wouldn't use yourself if you knew the way) and superb vocal guidance - both detail and timing are just about spot on
The Lane Assistant (tells you which lane to keep in on motorways) is also excellent, and that is why I will be upgrading to the new Navigon 7110 or 5110 (cannot decide!) due out next week with an updated version of lane assistant, and lots more
The only negatives are that you need POI Warner software to include POIs and Speed Camera data (the data that comes with it is useless) - but this is only 29 Euros
Hope this helps? |

Thanks for the info, xtraseller - glad to hear from somebody who is happy with MN6! You don't mention TMC - I assume you don't have this feature...?

No TMC, and living in Wales we simply don't have road chaos, so no need! (...and from what I have read, probably no signal even if we did)
My reason for liking MN6?
It simply gets you there. My TomTom, Navman and Garmin always either talk to late or not at all at certain points, or with poor instruction. And I don't wish to constantly look at the screen (if you do, MN6 looks the best of the lot, and your icon travels almost as smoothly as TomToms icon) |

I'm not sure whether the above refers to me or not! However the last PDA update to 6.2 restored TMC to MN6 but only the free stuff - a patch will be issued that will allow free and premium TMC to work??? Coming sooon!
Apart from the annoying revolving symbol the speed of MN6 is fine but is dependant on which processor you are using etc.
Compared to some others MN6 is far superior particularly the lane information.
I did mention in another thread that the 'string aerial' supplied with an FM9 TMC unit worked straight away with a 'Paid for' TMC provider but not on the free 'service'.
When the TMC patch arrives I will give you feedback. |

Will be getting either the new Navigon 7110 or 5110 (cannot decide) as soon as released, which comes with TMC - so will also let you know how I get on with that (!!!) |

It does indeed, sir! So what happened to your review?

You see this is why I'm so cautious about buying another Navigon system. Major problems like this should have been sorted before it was launched.

*If* the patch arrives. Have Navigon officially stated that they are working on such a patch?
My head tells me I would be better off withdrawing my support from such an utterly dysfunctional company and looking at a product from a more trustworthy manufacturer.... but my heart tells me that ultimately MN6 has the potential to be the best SatNav system on the market.

Have Navigon stated a release date?
Of course they may come with TMC... but don't assume that it will actually work!
And whatever happened to their collaboration with Porsche?

I have an 'official' reply from Navigon support dated 29 May 2007:
Quote: | Mobile Navigator 6 for PDA does not support paid TMC like they are available in the UK yet, only free services. We plan to release a tool that will allow you to use paid TMC services in UK and France. |
Whether it would cost extra is a mute point BUT who cares it can't cost THAT much can it? |

I think you said it all, ".... but my heart tells me that ultimately MN6 has the potential to be the best SatNav system on the market"
Looking forward to MN6.5 any day now, with the photo-realistic lane display (looks much better than even the Mio 720 which they are not releasing in Europe), and holiday route feature
Despite any flaws, I think the best thing about Navigon is the routing - it makes far more sensible routes than my Navman, TomTom or Garmin Nuvi ever does and that's why I'll stick with them |

That's contrary to what Navigon's own website and printed matter has been saying for several months: (quote) "The integrated TMC function including Premium TMC for France and UK"...
And notice how they have said they "plan" to release an upgrade. That's merely aspirational, it in no way confirms that a patch (or "tool" as they euphemistically refer to) *will* be available. I won't believe it until I see it.
