Firefox has allegedly got a spell checker but I don't know (yet) how to activate or use it. _________________ Robert.

Am I missing something here? How can an edit function be abused?
Hopefully it is only your own posts that you can edit so I don't see how you can abuse the function. _________________ Tomtom Go730T

I think you do recall correctly Darren. I've just tested my 3:44 pm post and it records the edit. _________________ Robert Brady |

Go to the page in the link below and install the UK dictionary at the end of the list. If you need anymore help after installing it send me a PM if you wish.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/file/11460/british_english_dictionary-1.19-fx+zm+tb.xpi OK link is fixed now and its a direct download link. Right click save to desktop and double click file on desktop to install.

Version 2.xxx and higher, tools/options/advanced/general tick the box. This underlines typos on the go, right click the underlined word for offered corrections.
Works fine but mine seems to be US biased and will not change. |
See post above your last one, you can install whatever dictionary you like. |

To confirm, you can only edit your own posts.
Problems usually happens during heated discussions where the poster alters their original post to manipulate their original argument after they change their mind or massage their standpoint after it being rebuked. This often leads to great confusion to readers new to the thread,
If the flow of discussion is changed it results in a lot of head scratching, further questions, misunderstandings and possibly even legal unaccountability, i.e. one person libels another, then edits it at later stage. _________________ Robert Brady |

Once you have installed the British-English Dictionary you also need to switch the spell checker to use that instead of the default US one. Reply to a post here and then right click in your reply and choose 'Languages - English / United Kingdom as the default. _________________ Darren Griffin |

It is quite simple. You start or comment in a topic. Start a flame or abuse exchange, then go back and edit the inflammatory text out of your post.
This used to happen to us in the past a bit. _________________ Mike Barrett |

We would ideally like it to be like that, but alas no. We would have to change the software, please see my previous post regarding this above. _________________ Robert Brady |

This is not an option available on our software. It is either all or nothing, if we had the time lag option or the edit until next post we would have implemented it a long time ago.
Having suffered from a (very) small number of people abusing the facility in the past it was removed. _________________ Mike Barrett |

If you install ieSpell you can check spelling when completing web forms, message boards and forums. Just right click when in the box where you are typing and select "Check spelling". .....as I have just done! You also get two other options, Look up on Webster and Wikipedia.
A great little program.

Speaking of keeping edits relevant so the information isn't rendered useless, this thread is not much use to the searchers who alight on it thread searching for the original topic of Australian speed cameras! :D _________________ Robert Brady |

Am I the only one who thinks edit is not a "good thing"? Fer instance (and it didn't underline fer, last weekend when all the Mekons (but it did underline that) were bar relaxing, when I was "helping" stevie_a, I made a mistake and told him to type something. I did blue to save inserting quote marks which I'd have had to tell him not to type. Sadly, I missed a thingy and what he got was [color=blue]something[/color. Now, if he'd gone ahead (we were almost instant messaging via the forum) and it didn't work, he'd have come back saying so, but if in the meantime I'd edited it (I did see it instantly, just hadn't previewed all the way to the bottom of my rambling), he'd come back and think he'd gone a bit doolally. Far as I'm concerned, editing Australian speed cameras is not a "good thing" (I put Australian speed cameras there so that he'll find it again and feel comforted). :D
PS Thanks for the Firefox pSpellchecker. What about pGrandma? _________________ Dennis
