I think you need to make sure that hidden folders are viewable. Go to the menus at the top of the explorer window and choose Tools - Folder Options. Then click the tab marked View and make sure that "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is selected.
That help? |

Hi,
I have just completed the installation, but although I got Yellowbells after checking the POI Observer in the setup, when I try at the finish all I get is a red bell.
Any ideas before I re-install completely??
Software Version is 1.06
Regards

Sounds like prefs.ini to me - it's not seeing the gps strings, so make sure that step is sound? |

I´ve erased it accidentally and haven't safety copy of the same one.
Thank you very much for your help !!! |

Ouch.
But it's part of the system software, so quickest would be to just reinstall that from the CD/DVD you got with the unit and then start again I would think. |

Hi,
Thanks for the post and I have got the speed cameras loaded and all is ok for about 10 minutes and then the whole system locks up.
All I have is a blank screen that does not react to the top hybernate switch only the hard off switch on the bottom, with all the grief this leads to.
Any ideas?
Regards

Just a thought. if anyone is interested, the antenna connection on the sony is a Hirose MS-147-c(lp)-1.
So now you can re-teminate one of the other SatNav active antennae from e-bay and improve reception.

[quote="Dippy"]First, I'm sorry for the this HUGE post. It's necessary to explain fully what you have to do. It took me three days on and off to get it clear in my head and make it happen, but I'm a GPS/speed camera database novice, and have never worked with Windows CE or POI Observer before.
Hi Dippy.
Firstly Well done.
I have a Sony U-50. I have followed your instructions to the letter and I am sure I am very close.
However I have 1 remaining problem! When I launch nav_u2.exe everything appears to be fine except I hav no GPS icon. If I press where it normally resides I get a message that a GPS device is not connected and that I should check connections and hardware.
The GPS section of Prefs.iniis as follows:
[gps]
comport = 0
receiver = 2
baudrate = 9600
receiver_status = 1
ExtTmcPort = 7
I have set nothing else.
Both virtual comm and observer appear to work correctly I get a yellow bell followed by a green bell when satalites are in view.
Hope you can help.
Many thanks.
Best regards.

Tricky!
First thought is:
Are you CERTAIN you are looking at the prefs.ini on the sony, not a copy on your pc?
Then, are you CERTAIN you've used the virtcom manager to set the virtual comport to 0 and source port to 5? |

I will have another go this evening.
Once again.
Many thanks.
Best regards.

I got up to the bit
Quote: | Launch POI Observer. It will complain that it can't find wav/bmp files nor a poi database - ignore all that and proceed anyway
Make sure the button in the second row says "Virtcom", not "Standalone". Press Activate. Press Minimize. |
When I open POI Observer it's already activated and so I clicked De-activate and then changed "Standalone" to "Virtcom" and then clicked Activate. I then received the following error message:
Quote: | OpenCommDevice: Failed to Open " Error No 123: |
Can anyone help? |

This is one of those irritating things that could probably be sussed if I could just see it! But doing it virtually is hard. I'm not sure I can make many sensible suggestions.
How old is the unit? If it's very new then is there a chance it has later software on it and they've moved the GPS away from port 5? Mine was up to 1.05 from memory. |

Thanks for the response
It is a quite a new unit it is version 1.06. When I chose Port 5 it said GPS Receiver next to it, so doesn't that mean it is still in port 5.
For the time being I've just switched back Nav-U2.exe to Nav-u.exe so that i'm back using the Sony software temporarily.
If you have any ideas, can you let me know?
Thanks |

Only thing I can suggest is to have a look at the gpspassion forums, where POI Observer might be supported. Looks like the error is coming from that software.
You are using the New Generation virtcomm manager, not the old one? (The one called something like virtcomng.dll) |
