Anyone know where I can download a copy of the latest TT6 software (not the maps).
I have an Ipaq which is not on TomTom's compatibility list but still runs TT6.
I've bought the new map but did not get the TT6 software.
Anyone any clues? |

Where did you buy the new map from?
I thought that if you purchased the map, then the software came with it. _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

ColinRG asked if the TTN 6 came with the new maps. It does but I too did not have a choice. Colin, have you got Tom Tom Home installed? (very slow software) If not get it from the Tom Tom site install it and then the download will be downloaded automatically to Home. You will need to have registered with Tom Tom for a username and password. Sorry if I am teaching you to suck eggs! Good look from then on in though - see my post of a few days ago in this Forum. _________________ Mike -

An update now from Mike:-
If readers have the problem I had when attempting to download the v660 GB+IE map to their laptop/PC using Tom Tom Home where it reported file error:("no file") I think I now have the suggested solution!
This incidentally also meant the ServerError.txt file in Program Files\Tom Tom Home had a message:-
Server error:
The request to the server was empty or not allowed, please try again.
***
The solution from our network specialists was that doing the map download appears to access a server called download.tomtom.com which is different we believe to the site used for application downloads.
Our network people then added the download.tomtom.com to a proxy allowed file and my download now starts and appears to work.
Since it is 230Mb though I will try the full download late at night when the network is quieter.
Hope this helps others.

I bought the maps from the TomTom Map Shop online. It appears if you choose 'Other Device' you don't get the TT Nav 6 software.
If you choose any other from the list you get the software. |

I've tried TomTom Home but it locks up my PC and hogs 99% of the CPU. |

You can download the Software, but not the Maps.

If you choose any other from the list you get the software. | That's to allow those who haven't a TTN6 compatible Device to use the new Maps with TTN5. _________________ Richard

A result at last !
I can confirm that following my earlier GB+IE v660 map download to laptop problem where it reported "An error occurred downloading this file:"no file" that this has now been fixed thanks to our network people checking my connection.
I am not sure exactly what they did other than the fact they monitored my connection having been given my IP address of my laptop. They determined the download was coming from download.tomtom.com and this was added to a proxy allow file.
Anyway, I have my maps at last, just need to wait for a 1Gb SD on order and I can install it.
Incidentally, Tom Tom Support GO - Download map section has a question on minimum recommended sizes and they do in fact now advise that for GB+IE maps v660 that a 512Mb SD card is used. I am not sure when this was added but have suggested they advise on basics like this in future BEFORE they issue press releases about new maps.
I hope this helps other readers, whilst I will try and help others suggesting things it is best you do not ask me technical things about proxy file lists as I can honestly say I do not understand the subject much myself.
Good luck on those downloads.

|
|
hi everyone, here's my 'two penneth' I downloaded the €79 maps of western europe for my rider and just tried it today (in my van) alongside my tomtom3 version (on Panasonic P2) and there's definitely less detail on the new map. The River Tyne seems to have dried up west of Wylam. The Derwent has disappeared too. Small side-roads are also missing locally. I'm disappointed about the missing rivers as it's nice to know when you're near them while navigating. I've just ordered a 2gb SD card and I'll put the original Rider's GB map on it as well as the new WE map so at least I should be able to switch maps if I get the urge to see the rivers. (Anglers need to navigate too, TomTom take note) I only hope the other european countries haven't lost details as I only bought the new map because the nice TomTom people won't activate my old Euro maps since Halfords exchanged my faulty rider but I can't supply proof of this.
Merry Christmas to all (except TomTom) |

Hi Andy_P2002
After 2 emails ftom tomtom full of complete waffle their final answer was that they can only work with the info Tele Atlas gives them.
So we will have to blame TA for giving them old info

I have just activated my GB+IE v660.1219 maps and found an error I reported ages ago and also a friends house in Burghclere, Berks missing despite he assures me the houses being built from 18 months ago. [ Look for post code RG7 3GN at Acorn Gardens ]
I think unless I am doing masses of driving I will forget map updates until their service offer improves.
Perhaps TeleAtlas should introduce a subscription service to allow more downloads of their maps per year and reward people for being the first finders of errors in a similar fashion to Pocket GPS World speed camera database. I am sure if they did there maps would soon improve.

TeleAtlas are actually quite quick at changing map info. The problem is that Sat Nav companies do not always use the latest info. For example, it states on the website that you are able to download the latest maps for your device.
However furtehr on, it states that if you own a 510, 710 or 910, you will already have these latest maps. Now how long has this range been out? 6 months or more?
The time it takes from TeleAtlas to release a new map, to TomTom using them is currently running at approx 12 -24 months behind (Ibelieve). This means that the info is 12 - 24 months old. However, they are the latest maps that TomTom provide...... _________________ -------------------------------------------------------
