Since the release of the Tungsten T2, the Palm's have been getting very closed in features to the Pocket PC's of today, and even more so since Palm released the Tungsten T3! TomTom today has announced the release of TomTom Navigator for the Palm Tungsten T3.

Amsterdam, January 8, 2004 -Tungsten(tm) T3 handheld users can now get from A to B, stress-free with TomTom Navigator. Building on the success of its existing range of products, TomTom's new version of its Navigator software provides a Plug and Go solution for Tungsten T3 handheld owners, transforming the handheld into a flexible, user-friendly car navigation system.

TomTom's Navigator for Tungsten T3 handhelds couldn't be any easier to use: insert the pre-loaded SD card and users can instantly access all the software, maps, colour 3D navigation views, as well as voice-guided instructions in a language of their choice.

It includes the latest, most accurate maps available from TeleAtlas, to guide users from door to door via the best possible route. Useful information such as the location of petrol stations, shops, airports and hotels are also included making travelling in your car easier than ever. TomTom Navigator for Tungsten T3 handhelds is available with a choice of wired or wireless Bluetooth GPS Receivers.

The package also includes a CD-ROM featuring a Major Roads of Europe map, which allows users to plan cross-border trips across Western Europe making this navigation solution the ultimate travel accessory.

The combination of TomTom's award-winning Navigator software and the Palm OS platform ensures a complete and easy-to-use navigation solution for even more mobile people," says Alexander Ribbink, director of marketing at TomTom.

It certainly looks great from the screen shots. I notice that road names have made an appearance in Navigator view at long last! The night mode colours are also more plaesing on the eye in my opinion.

Now I wonder if any of these features will appear on the PocketPC version in the near future be it via an upgrade or TTNav3 Wink

This really was one of the downsides with the navigator screen on the Pocket PC, and it's good to see they've started to change this. The amount of times I switch back to Map mode to check the street name.

Realistically, I'd think that Navigator 2 is now frozen, at least so far as new features go (so compatibility fixes only), and that the Palm T3 product will give us some ideas as to what to expect in the Pocket PC TomTom Navigator 3.

I'd like to be wrong - but we got quite a few enhancements as TomTom Navigator 2 developed, and if the experience the last time round is anything to go by, the upgrade to TomTom Navigator 3 hopefully won't be too expensive.

That particular colour scheme is called "antartica" and is available as part of the extra downloads from Tomtom's website Thumbs Up
