|
|
As a newbie I've been looking to get City Select US maps for my i3 for a trip in March. However, the standard 1 dollar = 1 pound conversion seems to have been applied. I have friends in the US who would be willing to buy it over there, and ship it to me.
1. Is this feasable. Would City Select from the US work on a European unit?
2. What is the difference betwwen City Select and City Navigator. The Garmin pages detailing these products are vague, but Navigator is not available to purchase online.
Any help appreciated,
Tony |

loading cs usa or cn usa onto a blank card can be done...the selects and navigators have been running along side each other for a few years now but the concensus is that they will merge soon..i think that navigator has more info like hotels and parks etc... _________________ *************************** |

Tony, when you say 'put city select maps onto a blank card', do you mean one of Garmins blank cards or would any micro transflash card suffice?
Thanks Peter |

Thanks very much for the reply. I've actually already got a spare 256 microSD card so just need the cheapest source for City Select Europe v7 (or Navigator I suppose?)

Does select 6 need unlock codes for the maps to be loaded into the i3, as that would suggest being wary of second hand disks?

At the price they are reported to be asking I think it would be cheaper to buy a new GPS!
Seems that some adverts for NEW City Select Europe v7 products say they are 'unlocked' yet others say they come with 'unlock codes' I find this confusing - can you assist ?
Thanks Peter |

peter...all city selects/navigators are LOCKED....the software comes with 2 unlock codes so if you have 2 gps's you can load onto both....even the v7/v8 maps on the i3 cards cannot be copied because of anti piracy software on them.... _________________ *************************** |

Thanks again !! So one final question . . I take it there's no 'trickery' to stop you unlocking the City Select Europe v7 software DVD to a UK purchased Streetpilot i3 ?
I ask this as I'm not sure I'm too happy with the Garmin motives on this whole issue - I don't say that lightly as I've been a Garmin customer for a long time.
Peter (I'll try not to ask any more questions but maybe your answers are helpful to others too) |

Thanks for the warning. I have actually taken a backup of the current card data, so I guess if it got corrupted - (similar situation to overwriting with new data like you mentioned) then it could be written back to the original card.
