Is it normal for the screen to be very dark with the backlight off? Mine is virtually unreadable unless I am outside.
Thanks,

Hi and
I think the Garmin is fairly good in that you can read the screen quite well in bright conditions with the backlight off.
Are you comparing the screen to something else or just making a general comment? I think the Quest screen is better than most colour screens I have seen. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Skippy,
Thanks for the reply.
I guess what I'm saying is that if I turn the unit on inside the house, I can barely see it. I've tried it on my bike, carrying it in the tankbag map pocket and it works fine. And of course with the backlight, it looks great. I just want to make sure that the dark display, as in you can barely tell that it's on, is normal when not using the baclklight.
Thanks,
Baro |

The Quest screen is "transreflective", that means it needs light to go through it to make it visible. That light can be from the backlight or from light that falls onto the screen and reflects of the reflective thing behind the screen. No light, no images. Works the same as almost any LCD watch, mobile phone, etcetera.
It's no TFT/LCD screen where each pixel itself transmits light. _________________ Robert Elsinga =8- )
