Just wanted to ask if anyone has wired their I3 into their car without the wire going everywhere at the front of the dash and also by keeping the cig lighter free for use.

Just wondered the best way to do this if anyone has done theirs themselves

Yes I have done this using an cigarette lighter extension cable bought from Motor World for £5 & cutting the plug off this then wired it to the rear of the cigarette socket using snap connectors. But DO NOT CUT OFF THE GARMIN PLUG as this reduces the voltage from 12v to 5v. A few people have made the mistake of cutting off this plug & frying their i3.

If you use an antenna you dont need to have the i3 stuck to the screen.
Mine is in a recess in front of the ash tray. The antenna is on the rear window shelf, workes there much better . Wire is run behind the back seat under the carpet then under the centre console out the ashtray to the unit.
I am going to take the advice and install a second socket which will be under the console to provide power.
I want this to be always on to remove the need for battries.
I will put a manuall switch in the line for when the car if off for long times.
I find with the antenna it finds sats much faster.
