Hi,

Just been reading about the new StreetPilot i5 on Garmin's website.

All it seems to offer over the i3 is some additional built in mapping... and a silver/grey screen surround... or am I missing something here?

I know that is not yet available here in the UK, but if (when!) it is, it would not appear to give any added benefit to users who are not going to require route mapping facilities outside of the UK mainland.

Perhaps it won't, as I can't really see that it would have any great appeal to the majority of UK users who are not that interested in having extended information for the rest of Europe, or wherever, immediately available.

No doubt it will attract a price premium over the i3 anyway, (were it ever to actually be sold in the UK), which in itself would make it a harder purchase to justify.

Mind you, I do prefer the silver surround! Wink

using an i3 in america if you drive cross-state would mean having to reload the data for each state onto the memory card. the i5 gets round this by having internal memory (4gb i think?) so that the map data for the whole of the usa can be stored on it. if the i5 comes out in europe i assume it would just have full euro maps so you wouldn't need to buy extra eu country memory cards.

Which would be great for those of us that regularly travel across Europe to Portugal, France and Germany...
