Destination change after switch-off?

I was heading west on the M4 today with a route set to finish in Yate (S. Glos). We stopped at a services for coffee and the i3 was switched off. Starting off again, it was still in navigation mode. I was directed off at the correct junction, and headed north up the A36 as expected. Then suddenly it said to turn right (direction to Yate is a left turn a few miles up the A36), then "recalculating" and turn right further up. Then another recalc and "turn sharp right" with the map showing an extended U turn back south. I suspect it was trying to take me home again. I had to reset the route for it to carry on as expected.

Any idea what happened here, apart from the i3 being homesick ?
