I've noticed that the i3 is appreciably louder on USB power than alkaline batteries.

Before I rush out and but some NiMh's, could someone tell me how the volume compares with NiMh power?

Never had any problem with Nimhs. Can hear it easily with the radio on, in fact I get annoyed when I miss something on the radio because of I3 (when I know where I am going).

I have the i3 with NiMH batteries on a motorbike and the "boing" noise for speed camera alerts is audible at high speed while wearing helmet and earplugs, though not the turn directions. Only used it on level 4 volume so far so level 5 might do the trick... the extra battery life alone has been worth it.

Hmm - I've not been that bothered about hard wiring the GPS on my bike, but if this made the volume looud enough so that I could hear the "turn" dialogue with the helmet on, I'd probably use it... still got level 5 volume to try first, then I'll be looking at this.

Will have to run the gps off the usb cable and see how much louder it is than with the batteries.

Looks like the battery thing was a bit of a red herring - the sound output has died completely now Sad

Reset, reflashed, and still no sound Confused

Hey ho, back to the shop we go... Rolling Eyes

Ash10 - have you tried new batteries? When the batteries get low on juice the sound stops working to preserve battery life.

Yep, tried new batteries (Alkaline + NiMh) and USB power - same behaviour everytime. It's dead, Jim... Evil or Very Mad
