Just played a blinder! Noticed in the paper last night that Staples were offering the Garmin i3 for £169.99 so I rang Staples to confirm.

Then I went to my nearest Currys (which happened to be next door to Staples). I found the nearest sales person and told him that Staples were cheaper and could they price match it?

Ten minutes later Currys reduced their price from £199.99 to £169.99 and then knocked a further 10% of the difference off!

Bingo, one brand new Garmin i3 for £166.99. It is so nice to get one over on Currys!!! ;-p

What do people think is the likelihood that recent buyers may get some partial refund for the difference?

I wouldn't normally be that concerned - and in fact am fairly happy with the price I paid.

*But* - £30 isn't insignificant, and I bought mine from a high-street Dixon's branch, at the most 2 weeks ago, for the then normal price of £199.

As it happens, I haven't used mine at all - even touched it (so the label is still over the screen and it's never been switched on), as it's meant to be being saved for my Christmas present from my wife.

I know retailers are under no obligation, but such a difference in price in no more than 2 weeks, does seem like I should be concerned on mere principle! ;-)

If it's still unused, I'd take it back & get your £199 back, then buy it somewhere else for £169 Smile

They will _likely_ be making some profit - albeit perhaps not as much as they would like.

Most do it, to react and be competitive with other vendors.

In some cases, some vendors sell things as loss leaders. I think this is perhaps too new, and too in-demand to be sold like that, yet.

As to them robbing us - that's a little unfair. Nobody makes us buy them. And plenty were happy to pay £199 for an i3 - I was.

Just had a quick look on their website, and they are now showing a 'special online price' of £169.99 and a Store price of £199.

It is hard to keep up with the price changes at the moment, but it is my guess that the nearer we get to Christmas the less incentive there will be for retailers to reduce the price... especially on a new 'gadget' such as this, which will make an ideal present for someone!
