What do I download or not?

Help!
I have been away from the site for 3 weeks and now its very confusing - there are loads of differnt threads which Im trying to catch up on re downloads up grades etc.

And in addition Ive been sent info re updates from garmin...

I have a few questions- perhaps they have been answered already - can anyine point me to the right place?

Can someone tell me if I download the updates from the garmin.com whether they will all be Uk compatable - or can I do harm to my i3?
I downloaded 2.4 as the unit had 2.3 on it - but now its updated to 2.7 - can I just download this? and itll be ok??

what do you do when it doesnt recognise a postcode?

this version 7 and 8 discussion is that about the updated maps? and if so then what is the 2.4 2.7 download about?

presumably I can just add Mafts downloads as they are updated as they are POI's ??

I hope someone is willing to clrify this for me- its difficult trying to keep up when youve been away!!

the trouble is joolz alot of peeps are asking questions already answered in previous threads, hence the multitude of posts...

ok to download and update with 2.70

postcode problem is now sorted and if the i3 doesnt see the postcode use an address entry

version 8 mapping has not yet been offered yet by garmin

go ahead and load guru mafts poi's
