Is there a way to record a waypoint and then extract that location from a Garmin Streetpilot i3?
I'm thinking of the camera database, here. I guess it would be easy enough to press and hold the wheel to record a favourite and thus signify a camera location but can you then upload that info to a PC or something?

It would appear that the i3 saves the POI's onto the transflash card as a poi.gpi, I have been attempting to find a program that will open a *.gpi file or maybe a gpi to csv converter but no success as yet, if the gpi file could be converted then it could be imported into AutoRoute etc and then you could use "location sensor" to find coordinates etc.
To view the transflash card I used a SD adapter plugged into pc card reader.
For now though one way is as you mentioned saving the poi as a favourite then note visually where on the i3 map your poi is then compare it on AutoRoute or Streetmap http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ etc |

havnt tried this myself yet but using mapsource you have the option of downloading to the gps or uploading from the gps...in theory on the upload will this not take the custom poi's from the gps and show them on mapsource... |

Does the i3 come with Mapsource or Trip and Waypoint Manager software? One of these might be able to get the waypoints out of your GPS. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Are you sure it's free?
I went to:
http://www.garmin.com
Support, updates and downloads (from the top menu)
Mapping programs
Mapsource
I am now told: "WARNING: This software will not work unless you already own a MapSource product." |
