Sad

I got my i3 back from support. Result was - working as it should.

Well, I am still not happy with that. I cannot understand the case. If I leave from a place like gargage the i3 will never get connection to satellite when I am moving with my car the main roads.

??normal??

Yep, they all do that.

The GPS receiver has to see the sats continuously for a minute or two before it can lock on to all of them. If you are moving then things keep blocking the view of the sats and it can't get a first fix very easily.

Once it has gotten the data it downloads at the time of first fix, it can reaquire them instantly so it doesn't matter if the view gets blocked.

The data lasts for about 6 hours, so if your GPS is off for less than 6 hours then it can do a "Warm" or "Hot" start quite quickly. If it is off for much longer than that then it needs to do a "Cold" start which takes a few minutes

I recommend that you stop in an area with a good view of the sky and wait two or three minutes while it locks on to all visible sats. Don't just drive off as soon as it gets it's first fix (which requires a minimum of 3 sats) or you will keep losing your fix, wait a minute or two more so it can lock onto most of the 10-12 visible sats and you will get far more reliable performance.

Garmin used to provide a status screen where you could see all this happening but they removed it in the i3, I don't know why. :x
