Does it step down to the correct voltage, which I understand to be 5v.

Yes it does - it works perfectly.

Differences from supplied cable are :-
a) It's got a curly (telephone handset type) cord and,
b) It's got a straight mini-usb plug (instead of angled)

I have just received the Blackberry in car charger from Mobile Fun but it doesn't have a step down transformer on it so I am guessing that it outputs 12Vdc. The i3 needs 4.75-5.25Vdc. Although it the unit may work on12v it may well burn out.
Has anyone else bought one of these cables who has the knowhow to measure the output.
Cheers

Crikey !! 8O

I bought the above cable as it was recommended by someone on another forum as being suitable for the i3. I've had mine for about a month now and used it almost every day - with no ill effects.

I think I'll use the garmin one from now on just in case, or until someone confirms the output from the blackberry one.

Cheers for the heads up Casablanca,

Rjabse

I've been searching for the friction mount for my dashboard but can't find any UK suppliers

I've also been looking for this in the UK but with no luck. It appears from the photograph to be similar to the dash mount for the eTrex so I'm thinking that I could use the base part already stuck to my car from the etrex one and the ball part would fix to this. I could then attach the i3 to the ball and hopefully would not have to put up with the suction mount falling off in sunlight ':D'
