The sounds that TT5 use for POI alerts are held in a file called data.chk.
If you read through this thread there is a lot of discussion on the topic of warning voices. _________________ Richard

Have you used the correct data.chk file for your system?
Have you selected the same sound for every alert (as described in Step 6 of the above guide)?

Hi there,
I'm new here. I have an Imate Jam and running TT5 Navigator on it.
I've downloaded the 4890_new.data.chk, which corresponds with my version of TT, deleted the old data.chk uploaded the new one to the tomtom subdirectory on my sd card. Soft reset my Imate Jam.
I'm awaiting the Bluetooth receiver and playing around with it in the meanwhile. I cannot change the warnings messages.
I cannot find anymore .CHK files anywhere but in the voices folder and the tomtom folder. I've replaced the one in the tomtom folder and renamed it to data.chk as instructed. But it's still picking up the original sounds from somewhere.
I have managed to add the Yoda and Darth Voices, but the warnings are not working.
Any ideas? would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I don't know the Imate but PDA users find the data.chk file in \Program Files\Navigator. _________________ Richard

Hi, firstly, congratulations on this website. I've read most of your articles and you guys are doing an awesome job.
I'm a newbie, both to this forum and to Satellite Navigation having recently purchased the Pocket PC, details of which are in my signature.
I'm trying to follow the instructions to install the latest list of speedcamera's but I think I might be reading too much into it and making it harder for myself!
1. Am I correct in assuming that the only files I need to drag across into the GB Map file are those in the folder 'ov2 bmp files'.
2. I notice that you also have spoken warnings in the 'wav files' folder. Can these be used instead of the beeps? If so, how?
Thanks in advance!! _________________ Tomtom 1.6 on iPhone 3GS

There can be 3 setups for speed cameras.
The first is a single file that contains all the cameras together, without any reference to what type. This is named pocketgps_uk_sc.ov2 and found in the 'single file version' folder.
Second is the 5 file version that divides the cameras into types. Gatso, Mobile, Specs, Redlight and Temporary. These you will find in the 'ov2 bmp' files.
Third is the full 17 file version that divides the Gatso and Mobile files into speed zones. There are 7 each of the Gatso and Mobile files. These are found in the 'speed zoned/gatso/ov2 bmp' and speed zoned/mobile/ov2 bmp' folders. Add to these the Specs, Redlight and Temporary files as above.
I have not included the Continental file because you will only need this if going to the continent.. But should you want it , it's in the 'ov2 bmp' folder.
When you've decided which set you want copy each .ov2 file, and it's matching .bmp file to your map folder. Then setup the POI's in Manage POI.

You can only use the wav files when CheckPOInt is running for TT5. Until then you can use the modified data.chk file. Details can be found here - http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtom-poi-alerts.php _________________ Richard

Richard Thanks for that!!
I'm just a little unsure on the spoken warnings for TT5.
Can you please tell me if I'm correct in understanding that;
Since I have TT5 version 5.0 I should download the '4010'.
The sentance "the exception that the application will be "4.400 (2840)". This file will only work with build 2840." has confused me. _________________ Tomtom 1.6 on iPhone 3GS

|
|
I have the same problem as others here. Without any pattern or warning my TT5 loses the POI warnings I have set up for the Speed Camera Database. I have successfully installed the Pocket GPS speed zoned dtabases, and voices for warnings (these are great thanks !!) However, very often the system simply reverts to no audible warnings of speed cameras, although they still appear visually on the map. This is infuriating as each speed zoned POI group has to be set with it's own audible warning, which takes time. Then an hour later, they're all lost again. Sometimes, I haven't even switched the PDA off inbetween them working and not !!!
I have tried seeing if the Great_Britain_Map.cfg file on the SD card is Read Only protected, but it wasn't, neither is the SD card write protected.
Any more ideas guys ?? Thanks.
Chizz.

You have two choices - you can either use the TomTom data.chk for the warning voices, or you can use Checkpoint, Gps Assist or POI-Warner to impliment the sound warnings.
If you want to use one of the latter options do a Search on the name. There should be plenty of results. _________________ Richard
