I have recently bought the Alturion GPS system, but despite what the recent article says I cannot get the Pocket GPS database to work.

It would appear that Trip Companion uses a proprietary ov2 file and does not recognise the Pocket GPS format. I have put all the files in the same folder, but it still only monitors the original foreign cameras.

Does anyone know a way round this as Trip Companion does not have a database for the UK at present.

Hi,

I'm the one responsible for writing this add-on for Alturion. There is data available for the UK, yes. The only problem is that my focus was on the benelux for this add-on, so I at the moment only supplu data for that. With version 1.3x and up I've also released a version for Tom Tom and introduced a new format based on the OV2 formet from Tom Tom, which is fully compatible to Tom Tom. The main difference is the fact that Trip Companion only scans camera near to the current position and so nat all availalble. This also reduces memory and procesoor overhead. An other difference is that TripC also takes into account the driving direction for a camera, but this has to be recorded with the camera and for the UK this info is missing at the moment.

It does not support the normal OV2 format however.

I'm currently porting the Desktop Update tool to the new format and make it support the online POI update database, which also holds the UK data. So be patient for a few days and it will be avialable.

John
