Speed cameras in the UK

When I tell people I work for Serco, most people haven't the faintest idea who they are, let me enlighten you. They are the company that make Gatso cameras and licence their Serco radar technology to other companies to make other non gatso cameras.

Now don't hate me, I don't make the gatso cameras but it does give me a bit of inside info.

70% of all gatso cameras don't have a film in because they can't afford to spare enough crew to change the film in any more.

All speed cameras can be blinded by infrared light (especially the Truvelo cameras).

SPECS cameras cannot read the square plates with 2 lines (1 above the other) and it doesn't look like they will be able to for a long time.
(this may also be true for the congestion charge cameras and the police car checker cameras but I can't be sure).

By far the best way of course is to set your TTG up properly and slow down the correct speed when you reach them, I am not condoning speeding but you have to consider that our speed limits were set in the 60s when the car were rubbish and the road surfaces were worse.
They have a much higher speed limit in Germany and a much lower accident rate, its because they are used to driving fast as apposed to the English that only go really fast for a few minutes on an open motorway.
